Check NCR-registered credit providers before you borrow
kred.co.za lists regulated South African credit offers so you can compare legal lenders, not unregistered mashonisa. The site is free. Approval stays with the credit provider.

How to verify a credit provider in South Africa
The fastest loan is not automatically the safest. kred.co.za exists so you can line up NCR-registered offers and see the difference between a regulated credit provider and a mashonisa with a WhatsApp number. Registration does not guarantee approval. It does tell you the lender is supposed to play by the National Credit Act.
Three checks before you send an ID copy
One: the business name on the application should match the name on the offer. Two: look for an NCR number and a way to contact the company that is not only a personal cellphone. Three: the quotation must show the amount, the term, the interest, the fees and the total repayable. If any of that is missing, do not continue.
Affordability is the law, not a mood
Registered lenders have to test whether you can repay. That is why they ask for bank statements or a digital income check. A “guaranteed payout in 10 minutes with no checks” is marketing, not an NCA process. If the instalment would eat the grocery budget, the legal answer is a decline — and that is a better outcome than a rollover chain.
Brokers, banks and microlenders
The board above mixes short-term microlenders and at least one bank-style personal loan. A R500–R4,000 payday product is not the same as a R200,000 personal loan. Use the sorting control to compare amount or term, then read the lender’s own page. kred.co.za does not open a loan account for you.
Keep your PIN, OTP and online-banking password off every application form. A registered provider does not need those to pay a legal loan into your account.
NCR and credit questions
NCR registration means a credit provider is listed with the National Credit Regulator and must follow the National Credit Act. That includes affordability checks, fee caps and prescribed collection rules. It is the baseline for legal consumer credit in South Africa.
kred.co.za is a comparison board for NCR-registered loan offers. We do not rank a lender as “the winner for everyone”. Amounts, terms and costs are shown so you can compare. The lender still decides if you qualify.
Look for a clear company name, contact details and an NCR registration number on the lender’s own site or loan documents. Warning signs: guaranteed approval, a fee before payout, no physical or company details, or a request for your PIN, password or SASSA card.
The National Credit Act is the main law that protects South African consumers who take credit. It covers how lenders assess affordability, what they may charge, and how they must present the cost of credit. Unregistered lending sits outside that protection.
Payday-style products are usually small amounts for days or a few weeks. Personal loans can be larger and run for months. A longer term can lower the instalment but raise the total interest. Match the product to the job the money has to do.
DebiCheck is a way to confirm a debit order against your bank account. Many registered lenders use it before the first repayment. It is a control, not a scam by itself. Confirm the mandate on your own banking channel.
A same-day payout with a high initiation fee can cost more than a slower offer with a clearer rate. Add interest, initiation and monthly service fees. If the debit date collides with rent, the “fast” loan becomes the expensive one.
Yes. You do not pay kred.co.za to compare offers. A legitimate lender should not ask you to pay a registration fee before the loan is paid out. If someone does, leave.
Do not pay. Registered credit providers earn from the loan contract after payout, inside NCA fee rules. Upfront “processing”, “insurance” or “SARS clearance” payments are a classic fraud pattern.
The credit provider. kred.co.za does not see your bank statements, does not score you and does not guarantee approval. Read the pre-agreement statement on the lender’s site before you accept.
